Chebera Churchura National Park is a protected area, south of Jimma . Established in 2005, the park covers 1,250 square kilometers with elevations ranging from 500 to 2,000 meters . The landscape encompasses wooded grasslands, montane forests, and riverine vegetation, intersected by 49 perennial rivers, four crater lakes (Keriballa, Koka, Shasho), hot springs, and natural caves . The park is renowned for its population of over 500 African elephants, alongside 37 mammal species including Cape buffalo, lion, leopard, hippopotamus, and greater kudu, and 237 bird species with six Ethiopian endemics .
