Gambella National Park is Ethiopia's largest protected area, covering approximately 4,575 to 5,061 square kilometers in Gambela near the South Sudanese border . Established in 1973-1974, the park lies between the Baro and Gilo rivers at elevations between 400 and 768 meters . The landscape encompasses savannah, deciduous woodland, riverine forests, extensive wet grasslands, and swamps with grasses growing over three meters tall . The park hosts 69 mammal species including the Nubian giraffe, elephant, buffalo, and the endemic Nile lechwe.
