Kibran Gabriel Monastery
Kibran Gabriel Monastery is a historic Ethiopian Orthodox monastery on a small island in Lake Tana, approximately 20 minutes by boat from Bahir Dar. Founded in the 14th century during the reign of Amde Tsion and rebuilt under Emperor Iyasu I (1682-1706), the monastery occupies a forested crescent on an extinct volcanic crater rim .
