Woleka Village

Woleka Village is a historic settlement, near Gondar. For centuries, it served as a principal village for the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews), who worked as skilled potters, blacksmiths, and weavers due to traditional restrictions on land ownership . The village still features the original round mud-walled synagogue, painted with turquoise Stars of David, and a Jewish cemetery containing graves of community members . A local family maintains the synagogue keys and preserves it as a memorial.
